Program Description

The solid foundation that exists today within The Horse Connection Inc.began 15 years ago as a university project in Applied Counselling. Our Equine Alternative Learning Program developed out of the recognition of the importance and need to keep "at risk" youth engaged and in school. Using horses and the teaching of horsemanship as an instrumental tool to facilitate and to foster growth of unlimited life skills was how we envisioned responding to this need.

The Horse Connection Inc. was founded and became a registered non profit charitable organization in 2001, after which a 2-year pilot project was launched in 2002 with the Pembina Trails School Division. There is a strong consensus amongst the school division, schools, and the various governments social, health, youth and community services that have been involved in our program that there is a continuous need for the expansion of this unique type of school programming.

The Equine Alternative Learning program resources its curriculum from Equine Canada's Western Learn To Ride program which also serves as the measuring tool used for the horsemanship activities that the students learn.

The Horse Connection Inc. is a Certified CanTRA Riding Center (Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association).

Classes are facilitated by Equine Canada Certified Coaches and CanTRA Certified Instructors.
